Associate Professor Vasilis Dimitriou received his B.Sc. in 1999 from the Mathematics Department of the University of Crete and his  M.Sc. in 2000 from the School of Mechanical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens – NTUA in the area of Automation Systems (2-year course). He was awarded by the Best Performance Scholarship by the State Scholarships Foundation of Greece -IKY. He received his PhD in 2004 from the School of Mechanical Engineering of the NTUA. Currently. He holds the Position of Associate Professor of the Hellenic Mediterranean University with specialization in Finite Elements in Engineering and Optoacoustic Applications. He is the founder and the Director of the Simulations Machining & Manufacturing Laboratory–SMM Lab. (http://www.smm.staff.teicrete.gr/) of the IPPL infrastructure. 

His research interests cover a wide range of basic and mainly applied mathematics and mechanics: Finite Element Methods - FEM and Mesh Generation Methods for mechanical & optoacoustic applications and phenomena, Multiphysics modeling and simulations, Meshless, Boundary and Particle simulation methods, Programming and development of Computer Aided Design/Machining-Engineering - CAD/CAM-CAE, Finite Element and Finite Volume and PDE’s modeling and simulation software development, Programming in a wide range of languages e.g. C, C++, Visual C++, Fortran, VB, Matlab, Computational Mechanics for Transfer Phenomena and Applications, Computational Fluid Dynamics - CFD and Magneto Hydro Dynamics – MHD, Parallel processing algorithms for Multiprocessing and High Performance Computing – HPC systems under Unix, Linux, Win-X etc Operating Systems – OS.

 IPPL is one of the access points of the National Research Infrastructure “ELI - LASERLAB Europe Synergy, HiPER & IPERION-CH.gr” (HELLAS-CH)

and the leader of the “Fundamental Science Program ” of the ESFRI research infrastructure HiPER.
